Ardtarmon House and Self-Catering Cottages |
||||
The HouseThe house and cottages are set among mature grounds in a quiet location in beautiful rural surroundings on the north coast of Sligo Bay, 19Km north west of Sligo town in the Yeats Country. The house has been the family home since 1852. The residence offers tranquil, spacious and comfortable accommodation with a nineteenth century ambience, much original furniture and with four large en suite bedrooms. There is a notable feeling of quietness and peace as the nearest minor road is a quarter mile away. The GroundsThe grounds were developed around 1900 and have been expanded since. Original paths have been reopened and the shelter belts towards the west extended. There is an extensive fruit orchard with thirty apple varieties and other fruit. A weather station is also located here with rainfall records since 1985 and temperature since 1994. The FarmThe surrounding twenty eight hectare farm has cattle, sheep, grain, vegetables and potatoes etc. as well as a bog conservation area. Alternative energy and eco awarenessThree hectares are devoted to growing willow as fuel for the wood chip boiler for central heating in all the buildings except the Gate Lodge - too far away at three hundred and fifty metres. We are actively pursuing a green agenda in many respects including house and grounds management. Feel free to ask us about latest developments.
